JOSE MARIA DE JESUS CARVAJAL, The Life and Times of a Mexican Revolutionary
Author: Joseph E. Chance
Price: $35.00
Shipping: $3.75
The author proposes to resurrect the memory of Carvajal and place him in his rightful position with other persons who molded the shape of the current Texas-Mexico society. Carvajal was an intellectual dreamer who sought social reform in Mexico and struggled against the forces of the conservative Centralists of the Mexican Republic. He led a pioneering effort for political reform in South Texas and Northern Mexico yet is remembered by only a few contemporary historians. Some of his fame comes from his leadership of a series of armed excursions into Northern Mexico from Texas in 1851 and 1852 that came to be known as the Merchant Wars. His career stretched from the Texas Revolution to the French Intervention. San Antonio, 2006 Trinity University Press 1st Ed., 283 Pgs., 6 x 9, HB.
