CRYIN' FOR DAYLIGHT, A Ranching Culture in the Texas Coastal Bend

Author: Louise S. O'Connor

Price: $49.95
Shipping: $7.00

This is a beautifully crafted book about the rich and ethnically diverse cattle ranching heritage of the Texas Coastal Bend with the histories of twenty-two coastal ranches included. The title comes from Will King, a Cowhand 1902-1985, who said "We loved to work cattle so much we'd just be sitting around cryin' for daylight to come." Chapters include "Cowboying and Ranching in the Coastal Bend," "South Texas Empires: The Ranches," Stewards of the Land," "Fools on Good Horses: The Cowhands," "Kitchen Bosses: The Cooks," The Old Heads: Legendary Heroes of the Cow Culture," "The Power Behind the Throne: The Women," "The Support System: The Townspeople," and " The Survivors; The New Generation." Contains hundreds of black and white archival photographs as well as the author's color portraits which introduce each chapter. This type of book reminds us of the Texas county history books that go out of print quickly and become rare and valuable. See companion volumes by the same author in this category, #'s 6757 & 6758 Tales From the Santone River Bottom,Volume 1, Origins, and Volume 2, Historic Times. Austin, Texas Wexford Publishing Company 2007, 2nd Ed. 9 x 12, 325 Pgs., HB.
